Job Description

Are you passionate about working the land and contributing to a vital agricultural industry? Sena Sugar Estates is seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Sugar Cane Farmers. In this essential role, you will be directly involved in the full lifecycle of sugar cane cultivation, from planting to harvesting, ensuring the health and productivity of our vast cane fields in Marromeu. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position that requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality. You will work outdoors in various weather conditions, utilizing both traditional farming methods and modern agricultural equipment. This role is fundamental to our operations, requiring individuals who are reliable, resilient, and eager to contribute to Mozambique’s sugar industry. You will be part of a larger team, working under experienced supervisors, contributing your skills to maximize yields and maintain the high standards Sena Sugar Estates is known for. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare land for planting sugar cane, including plowing, harrowing, and fertilizing.
  • Plant sugar cane stalks manually or using appropriate machinery.
  • Monitor sugar cane growth, identifying and addressing issues such as pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Perform weeding, thinning, and pruning activities to ensure optimal crop health.
  • Manage irrigation systems, ensuring adequate water supply to the fields.
  • Operate and maintain basic farming equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Participate in the harvesting process, which may involve cutting cane manually or assisting with mechanical harvesters.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental guidelines.
  • Report any issues with crops, equipment, or field conditions to supervisors promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with other farmhands and supervisors to meet production targets.

Required Skills

  • Proven practical experience in agricultural work, preferably with sugar cane or similar crops.
  • Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform demanding manual labor for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of crop cycles, soil preparation, and irrigation techniques.
  • Ability to operate basic farm tools and equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail in monitoring crop health and field conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification in agriculture or related fields.
  • Experience operating tractors or other heavy agricultural machinery.
