Key Responsibilities
- Prepare land for planting sugar cane, including plowing, harrowing, and fertilizing.
- Plant sugar cane stalks manually or using appropriate machinery.
- Monitor sugar cane growth, identifying and addressing issues such as pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Perform weeding, thinning, and pruning activities to ensure optimal crop health.
- Manage irrigation systems, ensuring adequate water supply to the fields.
- Operate and maintain basic farming equipment and tools safely and effectively.
- Participate in the harvesting process, which may involve cutting cane manually or assisting with mechanical harvesters.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental guidelines.
- Report any issues with crops, equipment, or field conditions to supervisors promptly.
- Work collaboratively with other farmhands and supervisors to meet production targets.
Required Skills
- Proven practical experience in agricultural work, preferably with sugar cane or similar crops.
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform demanding manual labor for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of crop cycles, soil preparation, and irrigation techniques.
- Ability to operate basic farm tools and equipment.
