Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Food Technologist to join our dynamic team in Matola. This is a crucial role responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of our food production processes, from raw material sourcing to final product packaging. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing new products, improving existing ones, and optimizing manufacturing methods to meet both consumer demand and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with production, quality assurance, research and development, and marketing teams to bring innovative and delicious food products to market. This role requires a strong scientific background, practical problem-solving skills, and a passion for food science and technology. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and improve food products and processes, ensuring quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct research and experiments on raw materials, ingredients, and finished products to optimize sensory attributes, shelf life, and nutritional value.
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000) throughout the production chain.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to product formulation, processing equipment, and packaging.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to understand consumer preferences and translate them into product development initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of product formulations, processing parameters, and quality control data.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes in food science and manufacturing.
- Train production staff on new processes, quality standards, and food safety protocols.
- Manage and oversee pilot plant trials for new product development and process improvements.
- Source and evaluate new raw materials and ingredients from suppliers, ensuring compliance with quality specifications.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Food Technologist or similar role in the food manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of food chemistry, microbiology, and processing techniques.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and quality management systems (HACCP, ISO).
- Proficiency in laboratory testing and data analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluent in Portuguese and English (written and verbal communication).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Food Science or related discipline.
- Experience with product formulation software and sensory evaluation techniques.
- Knowledge of Mozambican food regulations and import/export standards.
- Experience in new product development (NPD) from concept to launch.
- Certification in HACCP or other food safety management systems.
