Job Description
Sasol, a global integrated chemicals and energy company, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Engineer to join our world-class operations in Secunda, Mpumalanga. As a vital member of our engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing, designing, and troubleshooting complex chemical processes within our state-of-the-art manufacturing plants. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the full lifecycle of process engineering, from initial conceptualization and design through to implementation, rigorous monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will be responsible for conducting detailed process simulations, mass and energy balance calculations, and unit operation analyses to identify bottlenecks and areas for optimization. A strong emphasis will be placed on developing and implementing robust process control strategies, refining P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and conducting comprehensive risk assessments, including HAZOP studies, to uphold our unwavering commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with diverse cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, research & development, and project management, to translate strategic objectives into tangible engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes and equipment.
- Conduct process simulations, mass, and energy balances to identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop and refine P&IDs, PFDs, and other engineering documentation.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and provide timely and effective solutions.
- Participate in HAZOP studies and other safety reviews to ensure process safety and compliance.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (operations, maintenance, R&D) to implement projects.
- Monitor process performance, analyze data, and generate reports on efficiency and productivity.
- Implement process control strategies and advanced process control applications.
- Stay updated with industry best practices, new technologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and training to plant operators and junior engineers.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Process Engineer in a heavy industrial or chemical manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II).
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
- Experience with P&IDs, PFDs, and process control systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices in industrial settings (e.g., HAZOP).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) with ECSA.
- Experience with advanced process control (APC) and optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies.
