Job Description
Rwanda Mining Company (RMC) is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Mineral Processing Operator to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves the direct operation and monitoring of sophisticated machinery and equipment used in the beneficiation of various minerals. As a Mineral Processing Operator, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and effective transformation of raw ore into refined mineral concentrates, adhering strictly to production targets and quality specifications.
Your daily tasks will include the setup, operation, and routine maintenance of crushers, screens, mills, flotation cells, gravity concentrators, and other processing units. You will be responsible for meticulously monitoring process parameters such as flow rates, densities, pH levels, and temperatures, identifying and troubleshooting operational issues, and making necessary adjustments to optimize recovery and product quality. A keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to safety, and a strong understanding of mineral processing principles are essential for success in this role.
This is an on-site position requiring a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment, often working in shifts to ensure continuous operation. You will collaborate closely with other operators, supervisors, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless production and address any operational challenges promptly. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor mineral processing equipment including crushers, screens, mills, and concentrators.
- Monitor process parameters, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions.
- Perform routine pre-start checks, operational inspections, and basic maintenance on machinery.
- Conduct quality control checks on mineral samples at various processing stages.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, production reports, and equipment maintenance records.
- Collaborate with supervisors and maintenance personnel to ensure equipment reliability and resolve issues.
- Assist in the sampling and analysis of raw materials and finished products.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant performance and efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in operating heavy mineral processing equipment.
- Strong understanding of mineral processing principles (crushing, grinding, flotation, gravity separation).
- Ability to monitor process control systems and interpret data.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations in a mining context.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment maintenance.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and observational skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in varying environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma or certification in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- Experience with specific mineral types relevant to RMC's operations (e.g., tin, tungsten, coltan).
- First Aid certification.
- Forklift or heavy equipment operating license.
