Job Description
The EPA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Scientist to join our team in Washington, D.C. This role will involve conducting scientific research, analyzing environmental data, and contributing to the development and implementation of environmental policies and regulations. You will be working on critical projects that directly impact the health and well-being of communities across the nation. This position demands a strong understanding of environmental science principles, a keen eye for detail, and excellent analytical and communication skills. You will be collaborating with a team of scientists, engineers, and policy experts to address complex environmental challenges, and your work will directly influence environmental regulations and protection strategies. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrable history of successful research, data analysis, and report writing, with a focus on innovative solutions for environmental problems. This position requires significant independent work, but also involves extensive teamwork and collaboration with other EPA scientists and offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting scientific research on a variety of environmental issues
- Analyzing environmental data using statistical software and other analytical tools
- Developing and implementing environmental monitoring and assessment programs
- Preparing technical reports and presentations summarizing research findings
- Collaborating with other scientists and stakeholders to develop and implement environmental policies and regulations
- Participating in environmental impact assessments and other regulatory processes
- Staying abreast of current developments in environmental science and regulations
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of environmental science principles
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with environmental data analysis and interpretation
- Experience with environmental modeling and simulation (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with GIS software and spatial analysis
- Experience with environmental regulatory compliance
- Publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in grant writing or proposal development
