Job Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate Artisan/Craft Producer to join our network of local suppliers, contributing unique and authentic Jamaican handcrafted products to Fontana Pharmacy’s esteemed retail outlets. This contract role is ideal for an individual or small business dedicated to creating high-quality, culturally significant crafts that resonate with both local and international customers. As an Artisan/Craft Producer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and producing a range of artisanal goods that reflect the rich artistic traditions and natural beauty of Jamaica. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a diverse range of high-quality, authentic Jamaican craft products, in alignment with Fontana Pharmacy's brand aesthetic and market demands.
  • Source and utilize appropriate materials, with a preference for local and sustainable options where feasible.
  • Manage the entire production process from concept to finished product, ensuring adherence to agreed-upon specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain consistent production timelines and deliver products within specified deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Fontana Pharmacy's merchandising team to understand product needs, market trends, and seasonal requirements.
  • Ensure all products meet high standards of craftsmanship, durability, and presentation, reflecting the true essence of Jamaican artistry.
  • Provide clear documentation or descriptions for products, detailing their cultural significance, materials, and creation process to enrich the customer experience.
  • Attend occasional meetings or craft fairs as required for product showcasing, collaborative planning, or market feedback sessions.
  • Manage inventory and production capacity to fulfill orders efficiently, adapting to demand fluctuations.
  • Adhere to ethical and fair-trade practices in material sourcing and labor, if applicable.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable expertise in a specific craft discipline (e.g., pottery, wood carving, textile art, jewelry making, basketry, painting, etc.).
  • Strong portfolio showcasing original, high-quality artisanal work with a clear artistic vision.
  • Proficiency in design principles and the ability to translate cultural themes into marketable and aesthetically pleasing products.
  • Excellent attention to detail and unwavering commitment to producing flawless pieces.
  • Ability to manage production schedules, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Profound understanding of local Jamaican culture, history, and natural resources as they relate to craft development.
  • Basic business acumen for managing production costs, inventory, and potentially pricing strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a professional artisan or craft producer with a proven track record.
  • Formal training, apprenticeship, or significant self-taught mastery in a traditional or contemporary craft.
  • Prior experience supplying handcrafted products to retail establishments, including an understanding of retail packaging and display needs.
  • Knowledge of sustainable crafting practices and the use of eco-friendly materials.
  • Ability to create custom pieces or adapt existing designs based on specific client or market requests.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with our team.
