Job Description

DPA is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Renewable Energy Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of our solar and energy storage projects across Zimbabwe. This critical role involves overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept and detailed planning through execution, commissioning, and handover. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards, while maintaining strong client relationships and managing diverse project teams and stakeholders. You will be instrumental in driving the adoption of clean energy solutions, contributing directly to DPA’s mission of transforming Africa’s energy landscape. This position demands a strategic thinker with strong technical acumen, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record in managing complex renewable energy installations. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of renewable energy projects (primarily solar PV and battery storage) from inception to completion.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, detailed schedules, critical path analysis, budgets, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Manage project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring efficient collaboration, clear communication, and optimal performance.
  • Oversee site assessments, technical design reviews, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities, ensuring technical integrity and compliance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to project specifications, national and international industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Monitor project progress against baselines, identify potential risks and issues proactively, and implement effective mitigation and contingency strategies.
  • Manage project budgets, financial forecasts, cost control measures, and cash flow to ensure profitability and financial health of projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal departments, maintaining excellent communication channels.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports, performance metrics, financial summaries, and technical updates to senior management and clients.
  • Facilitate seamless project commissioning, thorough close-out activities, and effective handover to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management processes, tools, and execution efficiency to enhance overall project delivery.
  • Mentor and develop junior project staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Project Management, or a closely related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in project management, with at least 3 years specifically in the renewable energy sector (solar PV or energy storage projects).
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, system components, electrical codes, and installation best practices.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, Jira) and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets, project schedules, and allocate resources effectively across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement skills with a track record of motivating teams.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), negotiation, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and a willingness to travel frequently to project sites across various regions of Zimbabwe.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2 certification.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering or business discipline.
  • Experience with grid integration challenges, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and regulatory compliance within the Zimbabwean and broader African context.
  • In-depth knowledge of various energy storage technologies (e.g., Li-ion, flow batteries) and their applications in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and investment analysis for renewable energy projects.
