Job Description

Curro Holdings Ltd. is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Foundation Phase Primary School Teacher to join our vibrant team in Johannesburg. This pivotal role involves nurturing young minds, laying a strong educational foundation, and inspiring a lifelong love for learning in our youngest students (Grade R to Grade 3). As a Foundation Phase Teacher, you will be responsible for creating an engaging, supportive, and child-centred classroom environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and discovery. You will implement the national curriculum (CAPS) with creativity and innovation, ensuring that all learners receive individualised attention and are challenged to reach their full potential. We are looking for an educator who possesses excellent classroom management skills, a deep understanding of early childhood development principles, and the ability to foster strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. This role is ideal for a proactive and compassionate teacher who is eager to contribute to a school community that values excellence, inclusivity, and holistic growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans in accordance with the CAPS curriculum for the Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3).
  • Create a stimulating, safe, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning and student well-being.
  • Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of achievement.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, behaviour, and any concerns.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Integrate technology effectively into daily lessons to enhance learning experiences.
  • Foster social and emotional development through group activities and individual guidance.
  • Manage classroom behaviour positively and consistently, promoting respect and good citizenship.
  • Organise and supervise educational excursions and extracurricular activities as required.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and support staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Foundation Phase or a relevant NQF Level 7 qualification.
  • SACE (South African Council for Educators) registration is mandatory and up-to-date.
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience teaching in the Foundation Phase.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of the CAPS curriculum.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in English (first language or highly fluent).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team-working abilities.
  • Passion for early childhood education and child development.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Office Suite, educational software).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate diploma or higher qualification in Education.
  • Experience with independent school environments.
  • Additional teaching methodologies certifications (e.g., Montessori, Reggio Emilia).
  • Ability to teach in an additional South African official language.
  • First Aid certification.
