Job Description
NPD Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Construction Site Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Kigali. As a Construction Site Supervisor, you will be instrumental in overseeing daily site operations, ensuring projects are executed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role demands a proactive leader with a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of construction methodologies. You will be responsible for coordinating on-site activities, managing labor, materials, and equipment, and ensuring strict adherence to project timelines and budget. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise daily on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to specified quality standards.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of subcontractors, craft workers, and other site personnel, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
- Implement and enforce strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures on site, conducting regular safety briefings and inspections.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement effective solutions to prevent delays, escalating complex problems to the Project Manager.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with building codes, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct thorough quality control inspections to ensure that all materials and workmanship meet or exceed project standards.
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports, site diaries, and other relevant documentation for project tracking and stakeholder communication.
- Manage and reconcile material inventory, ensuring timely procurement and efficient use of resources to minimize waste.
- Liaise effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, and local authorities to facilitate smooth project execution.
- Provide technical guidance and support to site personnel as needed, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Train and mentor junior staff and workers on best practices, safety protocols, and company procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 5 years as a Construction Site Supervisor or in a similar leadership role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment, and best practices.
- In-depth understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and best practices specific to Rwanda.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings accurately.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially under pressure.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is essential for effective communication on site.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Professional certification in construction management or project management (e.g., PMP, LEED).
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, commercial buildings, water treatment plants).
- Familiarity with local Rwandan construction regulations, permitting processes, and quality assurance standards.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
