Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and safety-conscious Mineral Processing Plant Operator to join our dynamic team at Mimosa Mining Company. This critical role involves the efficient and safe operation of various equipment and processes within our concentrator plant, ensuring optimal recovery of platinum group metals (PGMs) from raw ore. The successful candidate will be responsible for continuous monitoring, controlling, and adjusting plant parameters using advanced control systems to maintain desired production targets, product quality, and operational efficiency. This includes expertly operating crushers, ball mills, flotation cells, thickeners, filters, and associated pumping, conveying, and conditioning systems. A strong understanding of fundamental mineral processing principles, coupled with a proactive approach to identifying potential issues, troubleshooting operational deviations, and assisting in preventative maintenance activities, is absolutely essential. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, unwavering adherence to strict safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, often under shift conditions. You will be expected to conduct regular, thorough inspections of all operational areas, accurately record operational data, interpret trends, and communicate any deviations or issues promptly and clearly to supervisors and fellow team members. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor mineral processing equipment including crushers, mills, flotation cells, thickeners, filters, and ancillary systems through process control interfaces.
- Adjust plant parameters such as reagent dosages, water flow rates, slurry densities, and pH levels to maintain optimal processing conditions and target product specifications.
- Conduct routine, thorough inspections of plant equipment and infrastructure, proactively identifying and reporting any malfunctions, wear, or potential hazards.
- Accurately record and interpret operational data, maintaining detailed log entries and ensuring adherence to daily and weekly production schedules.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, assist skilled maintenance personnel during scheduled downtime, and respond effectively to unscheduled breakdowns.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations, environmental policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality management systems.
- Actively participate in risk assessments, safety meetings, and contribute to a culture of continuous safety improvement and hazard mitigation.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with shift supervisors, colleagues, and maintenance teams regarding plant status, operational issues, and handovers.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring excellent housekeeping practices across the plant.
- Assist in the training and mentorship of junior operators and new team members, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Plant Operator in a mineral processing environment (preferably PGM, Gold, or Base Metals).
- Solid understanding of crushing, milling, flotation, dewatering, and general materials handling processes.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and operational manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated troubleshooting skills for plant equipment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- High level of safety consciousness and unwavering commitment to safe work practices.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for data entry, reporting, and process control systems.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in a demanding industrial environment, including regular shift work (days/nights).
Preferred Qualifications
- National Certificate or Diploma in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience with advanced process control systems (DCS/SCADA).
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Operating license for mobile equipment such as forklifts or front-end loaders.
