Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our dynamic team at our Rustenburg operations. This critical role involves ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all personnel, contractors, and visitors within our demanding mining environment. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in line with OHS Act and Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Deliver comprehensive safety training and induction programs to employees and contractors.
- Prepare and submit accurate safety reports, statistics, and analyses to management.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety controls and initiatives.
- Advise management on health and safety matters and legislative compliance.
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of safety equipment.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns and proactive engagement.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
Required Skills
- National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent (e.g., SAMTRAC/NOSA Certificate)
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the mining industry.
- Thorough knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other relevant OHS legislation.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., SAIOSH).
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
- Blasting Certificate or other mining-specific certifications.
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certifications.
