Job Description

Premier Service Medical Investments (PSMI) is actively seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and dedicated Pharmacist to join our professional team in Harare. This pivotal role involves the precise dispensing of prescribed medications, providing expert pharmaceutical advice to both patients and healthcare professionals, and ensuring the safe and effective use of all pharmaceuticals. As a Pharmacist at PSMI, you will be instrumental in overseeing daily pharmacy operations, meticulously maintaining accurate patient records, and rigorously adhering to all national and organizational regulatory guidelines and ethical standards. You will be presented with unique opportunities to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including doctors, nurses, and other medical staff, working together to optimize patient care outcomes and contribute to a holistic approach to health. We are specifically looking for an individual with an unwavering commitment to patient safety, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a profound, thorough understanding of pharmacological principles and clinical applications. Your daily responsibilities will encompass comprehensive medication review, extensive patient counseling on proper drug usage, potential side effects, and adherence strategies, as well as robust inventory management, quality control, and compounding when necessary, ensuring the highest standards of pharmaceutical care are consistently met. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently dispense prescribed medications, ensuring proper labeling, dosage instructions, and patient information.
  • Provide comprehensive counseling to patients on medication use, potential side effects, drug interactions, proper storage, and adherence strategies.
  • Conduct thorough medication reviews to identify potential drug-related problems, ensuring safe, effective, and rational drug therapy.
  • Collaborate proactively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care plans and resolve medication-related issues.
  • Manage and maintain precise pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating stock to minimize waste and ensure product integrity.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all national pharmacy policies, PSMI internal procedures, and regulatory requirements set by the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and detailed patient records and prescription information using pharmacy management systems.
  • Participate in health promotion activities, patient education initiatives, and community outreach programs.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy technicians and support staff, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to professional standards, and continuous learning.
  • Compound medications as required, strictly adhering to sterile and non-sterile compounding guidelines and safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Registered Pharmacist with a valid practicing certificate from the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-registration experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Profound knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical care principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear, empathetic, and culturally sensitive patient counseling.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy management software and general computer applications (e.g., MS Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as an integral part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Unwavering commitment to patient safety, ethical pharmaceutical practice, and continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with chronic disease management and medication therapy management (MTM) services.
  • Familiarity with PSMI's internal systems, procedures, and service delivery model.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or a proven ability to mentor and train junior pharmacy staff.
