This role is crucial for bridging the gap between healthcare services and the communities we serve, ensuring that essential health information, preventive measures, and support reach those who need it most. As a Community Health Worker, you will be the cornerstone of our community-based health initiatives, working directly with individuals and families to promote health, prevent disease, and facilitate access to medical care. • Facilitate referrals of community members to appropriate health facilities and support follow-up to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide basic first aid and assist in the management of minor health issues, under supervision.
  • Support community-based surveillance activities by identifying and reporting potential public health concerns or outbreaks.
  • Organize and lead community health awareness sessions, workshops, and focus group discussions.
  • Collect and accurately record data related to health activities, community feedback, and health indicators.
  • Collaborate closely with local health authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to strengthen health initiatives.
  • Act as an advocate for community health needs and barriers to accessing care, reporting findings to the MSF team.
  • Assist in the distribution of health-related materials and supplies (e.g., mosquito nets, hygiene kits).
  • Participate in ongoing training and capacity-building programs to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working within community settings, preferably in a health-related capacity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse community members.
  • Strong understanding of local customs, traditions, and community dynamics in Mozambique.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team in challenging environments.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese (written and spoken) and fluency in at least one local Mozambican language relevant to the assigned area (e.g., Changana, Sena, Macua).
  • Basic knowledge of common health issues, hygiene practices, and disease prevention.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to working with vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct at all times.
