Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Livestock Farmer to join our dynamic team in Harare. As a Livestock Farmer at Irvine’s Zimbabwe, you will be instrumental in overseeing the daily operations of our poultry farms, ensuring the optimal health, productivity, and welfare of our livestock. Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of poultry houses, including feeding, watering, and ventilation systems.
- Implement and rigorously enforce strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
- Monitor flock health closely, identify early signs of illness, and administer appropriate treatments under veterinary guidance.
- Supervise, train, and mentor farm staff, ensuring strict adherence to best practices, safety standards, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of feed consumption, growth rates, mortality, and production data.
- Oversee the sanitation, cleaning, and general maintenance of farm equipment and facilities.
- Manage breeding programs and chick rearing processes (if applicable to the specific farm unit).
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant animal welfare regulations and company operational standards.
- Assist in the precise inventory management for feed, medication, vaccines, and other essential farm supplies.
- Report regularly and comprehensively on farm performance, challenges, and successes to senior management.
Required Skills
- Proven practical experience in poultry farming or general livestock management.
- In-depth knowledge of poultry health, nutrition, and husbandry techniques.
- Strong understanding of biosecurity measures and effective disease prevention strategies.
- Ability to proficiently operate and maintain various farm machinery and equipment.
- Excellent observational skills, with a keen eye for detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
- Proficiency in record-keeping, data collection, and basic analysis.
- Valid Class 4 driver's license.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding farm tasks in various weather conditions.
