Job Description

Are you passionate about renewable energy and driven by the desire to make a real impact? BBOXX is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Renewable Energy Technician to join our dynamic team in Kigali, Rwanda. In this critical role, you will be at the forefront of our operations, ensuring the seamless installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our cutting-edge solar home systems and mini-grid solutions across various communities. As a Renewable Energy Technician, you will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks, from conducting pre-installation site surveys and configuring solar PV systems to performing intricate diagnostic tests and ensuring optimal system performance. You will work closely with our field operations team, engaging with customers to provide exceptional service, explain system functionality, and resolve any technical issues efficiently. We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also possesses excellent problem-solving skills, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in varied field conditions. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and commission BBOXX solar home systems and mini-grid components according to established technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive site assessments to determine optimal solar panel placement, battery storage requirements, and system sizing.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks, preventive services, and repairs on existing solar installations to ensure continuous, efficient operation.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, including electrical faults, inverter malfunctions, and battery performance problems, using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Provide technical support and training to customers on the proper use and basic maintenance of their solar systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance activities, inventory, and customer interactions using digital platforms.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and environmental guidelines during all field operations.
  • Collaborate with the logistics and customer service teams to schedule installations and service calls efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in the installation and maintenance of solar PV systems or other renewable energy technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical principles, wiring diagrams, and solar system components (panels, inverters, batteries, charge controllers).
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with customers and team members.
  • Valid Rwandan driving license with a clean record and willingness to travel frequently to remote areas.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with BBOXX products and operational procedures.
  • Experience with remote monitoring and management systems for solar assets.
  • Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and English (written and spoken).
