Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cyber Security Analyst to join our esteemed Information Security team in Johannesburg. In an era where digital threats are constantly evolving, your role will be pivotal in safeguarding Standard Bank’s critical assets, data, and the trust of our millions of customers. As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will be on the front lines, actively monitoring our systems, detecting potential threats, and responding swiftly to security incidents. This role demands a proactive individual with a strong understanding of various security technologies, threat landscapes, and incident response methodologies. You will collaborate closely with various IT and business units, contributing to the development and implementation of robust security policies, procedures, and controls. The successful candidate will have an insatiable curiosity for cyber security trends, a knack for problem-solving, and the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to diverse audiences. You will be instrumental in conducting vulnerability assessments, participating in penetration testing exercises, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous security monitoring of systems, networks, and applications to detect and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of security alerts, logs, and other forensic data to identify patterns, root causes, and potential threats.
  • Participate in the incident response lifecycle, including containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident analysis.
  • Implement and maintain security tools and technologies, including SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability management platforms.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and enforcement of security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and assist with penetration testing activities to identify and remediate security weaknesses.
  • Provide security awareness training and guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of the latest cyber security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with IT operations, development teams, and other business units to ensure security is embedded throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Generate comprehensive security reports and dashboards for management and technical teams.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Cyber Security Analyst or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, network protocols, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and cloud security concepts.
  • Proficiency with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools (e.g., Splunk, IBM QRadar, Microsoft Sentinel).
  • Experience with incident response, threat hunting, and forensic analysis.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management and penetration testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of common attack vectors and mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CEH, GIAC GSEC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR, POPIA).
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and data analysis.
  • Experience with cloud security platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001.
