Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Rum Distillery Production Manager to lead our comprehensive production operations at Worthy Park Estate. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of rum production, from fermentation and distillation to aging and blending, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a deep understanding of distillery processes, a passion for rum, and a proven track record in managing complex manufacturing environments. You will be responsible for optimizing production schedules, managing inventory, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the production team. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily distillery operations, including milling, fermentation, distillation (pot and column stills), aging, and blending processes.
  • Develop and implement production plans, schedules, and budgets to meet demand while optimizing resource utilization and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards, food safety regulations (HACCP, ISO), and environmental compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing production team, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous learning.
  • Manage raw material and finished product inventory, coordinating with procurement and logistics teams.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track production efficiency, yield, and quality, initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Master Blender and other departments to innovate new products and improve existing processes.
  • Maintain all production equipment, overseeing maintenance schedules and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Prepare regular reports on production performance, challenges, and improvement initiatives for senior management.
  • Ensure the distillery operates in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to all local and international regulations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in production management within a distillery or similar food/beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable expertise in fermentation, distillation, and aging processes, preferably with rum or spirits.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising large teams.
  • Excellent understanding of quality control systems (HACCP, ISO) and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in production planning, inventory management, and operational efficiency methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Industrial Management, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in a manufacturing context.
  • Knowledge of Jamaican rum traditions and the global spirits market.
  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of local Jamaican Patois.
