Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty trucks safely and efficiently on long-haul routes, strictly adhering to all traffic laws, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Transport various types of cargo, meticulously ensuring proper loading, secure fastening, and systematic unloading procedures are followed for maximum safety and cargo integrity.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and associated equipment (including but not limited to tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels) and promptly report any observed defects, malfunctions, or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive logbooks, precise delivery receipts, detailed trip expense records, and all other necessary transportation documentation.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with dispatch, logistics managers, and customers regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any operational issues encountered during transit.
- Plan optimal routes and diligently meet delivery schedules, prioritizing fuel efficiency, time management, and road safety.
- Ensure scrupulous compliance with all local, national, and international transportation regulations, including weight restrictions, hazardous material handling protocols (if applicable), and customs requirements.
- Adhere rigorously to company safety standards and established best practices at all times to proactively prevent accidents, protect cargo, and ensure personal safety.
- Represent AGL with the utmost professionalism and courtesy when interacting with customers, customs officials, and the general public.
Required Skills
- Valid Class C/E or equivalent heavy vehicle driver's license, officially recognized in Mozambique.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable and proven experience in long-haul truck driving.
- Impeccable driving record with no major accidents or significant traffic violations.
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of Mozambican road networks, geographical routes, and specific traffic regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with team members and clients.
- Exceptional time management and organizational abilities to ensure timely deliveries.
- Adequate physical fitness to comfortably handle long driving hours, endure varying weather conditions, and perform occasional manual loading/unloading tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a certified defensive driving course or program.
- Proficiency in utilizing GPS and advanced navigation software for optimized route planning.
- Fluency in Portuguese; working knowledge of English or prevalent local languages is a significant advantage.
- Documented experience with diverse types of trailers (e.g., flatbed, reefer, tanker, container chassis).
- Certification for transporting hazardous materials (Dangerous Goods endorsement) if applicable to cargo types.
