Jamalco is seeking a dedicated and experienced Geologist to join our dynamic team in Clarendon, Jamaica. This pivotal role involves contributing to all phases of our bauxite mining operations, from exploration and resource definition to mine planning and environmental monitoring. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and data collection in designated exploration and mining areas.
- Supervise drilling programs, including core logging, sample preparation, and quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
- Interpret geological data (e.g., geochemical, geophysical, drill hole data) using specialized software to generate accurate geological models and resource estimates.
- Assist in the preparation of short-term and long-term mine plans, ensuring alignment with geological models and operational objectives.
- Monitor active mining faces, providing geological guidance to mining operations and ensuring adherence to geological controls.
- Prepare comprehensive geological reports, technical presentations, and progress updates for various stakeholders.
- Collaborate with mine engineers, surveyors, and environmental teams to optimize resource utilization and minimize environmental impact.
- Ensure strict adherence to company safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training initiatives to stay abreast of geological advancements and industry trends.
- Conduct geological risk assessments and contribute to mitigation strategies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as a Geologist, preferably within the mining sector (bauxite experience is highly advantageous).
- Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, Surpac, ArcGIS).
- Strong understanding of geological principles, mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology.
- Proven experience in field mapping, core logging, and supervision of drilling programs.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex geological information clearly.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license and ability to conduct fieldwork in various terrains and weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Economic Geology, Mining Geology, or a related field.
- Professional registration with a relevant geological or engineering body.
- Experience with bauxite deposit geology and resource estimation methodologies.
- Familiarity with Jamaican geological frameworks and regulatory requirements.
