Job Description
As a Mine Surveyor at our Rustenburg operations, you will play a pivotal role in the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of our mining projects. This is a critical on-site position requiring meticulous attention to detail and a profound understanding of both surface and underground mining environments. Your primary responsibilities will involve the precise measurement, mapping, and monitoring of mine layouts, excavations, and infrastructure. You will be instrumental in preparing accurate survey plans, sections, and drawings, ensuring all mining activities adhere strictly to design specifications, legal requirements, and our stringent internal safety standards. Utilizing advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners, and potentially drone technology, you will collect essential data for volume calculations, ore reserve estimations, and progress reporting. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with mining engineers, geologists, and operational teams to provide crucial spatial data that informs decision-making, optimizes resource extraction, and ensures the stability and safety of our workings. Beyond data collection, your role will involve the interpretation of geological and geotechnical information, setting out control points, and conducting regular audits to verify accuracy and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct accurate underground and surface surveys for mining operations.
- Prepare, update, and maintain detailed mine plans, maps, and layouts using specialized software.
- Calculate ore reserves, rock volumes, and material quantities for production and planning.
- Ensure all surveying activities comply with South African mining regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain modern surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS, and laser scanners.
- Implement and manage surveying software applications (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Surpac) for data processing and analysis.
- Provide accurate survey control for drilling, blasting, excavation, and infrastructure development.
- Assist in geological interpretation and resource modeling to support mine planning.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify the accuracy of existing mine plans and survey data.
- Collaborate effectively with mining engineers, geologists, and operational teams.
Required Skills
- B-Tech or National Diploma in Mine Surveying or Geomatics.
- Valid Mine Surveying Certificate of Competency (e.g., SAMREC recognized).
- Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience as a Mine Surveyor in an operational mining environment.
- Proficiency with industry-standard surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Surpac, MineRP).
- Demonstrated experience with total stations, GPS/GNSS, and laser scanning equipment.
- Strong understanding of various mining methods (e.g., underground and open-pit) and related safety protocols.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Valid Code 08 (B) driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- BSc or BEng in Mine Surveying, Geomatics, or a related engineering field.
- Experience with drone surveying, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling software.
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant technical or management discipline.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
