Job Description
Are you a highly meticulous and certified Welding Inspector with a profound understanding of welding processes, metallurgy, and non-destructive testing? ArcelorMittal South Africa is seeking a dedicated and experienced Welding Inspector to join our esteemed team at our Vanderbijlpark Works. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the structural integrity, quality, and safety of all welded components and structures across our vast industrial landscape. Your expertise will directly contribute to the reliability and longevity of our plant infrastructure, pressure vessels, pipelines, and fabricated steel products, which are fundamental to our continuous operations as a leading steel producer.
This position demands an individual who possesses an unwavering commitment to quality assurance and strict adherence to national and international welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3, API 1104, SANS standards). You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive visual inspections of welds at various stages of production, from fit-up and in-process welding to final product completion. This includes verifying material specifications, consumables, welding procedures (WPS), welder qualifications (WPQ), and ensuring environmental conditions are optimal for welding activities. You will meticulously document all findings, identifying non-conformances and working collaboratively with welders, fabricators, engineers, and project managers to implement corrective actions. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and overseeing non-destructive testing (NDT) activities performed by third-party vendors, interpreting NDT results, and making informed decisions regarding weld acceptance or rejection. Your ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, welding symbols, and specifications will be paramount to your success.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced industrial environment, demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive approach to identifying potential issues, and a strong safety-first mindset. You will be expected to conduct regular audits of welding operations, provide technical guidance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing welding quality and efficiency. This is more than just an inspection role; it’s an opportunity to be a cornerstone in maintaining the operational integrity and high standards of a critical industry leader.
