Swissôtel Zürich is seeking a dedicated individual to join our facilities team, responsible for maintaining and enhancing the stunning gardens and grounds that grace our prestigious hotel. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine garden maintenance including planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, watering, and fertilizing of lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds.
- Operate and maintain various gardening equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order and used safely and efficiently.
- Implement and manage irrigation schedules and systems to ensure optimal plant hydration while conserving water.
- Monitor plant health, proactively identify and treat pests, diseases, and nutritional deficiencies using environmentally responsible methods.
- Contribute to landscape design and enhancement projects, including seasonal plantings, hardscaping elements, and feature installations.
- Ensure all outdoor areas, pathways, patios, and decorative features are kept impeccably clean, tidy, and free from debris.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, particularly when operating machinery or handling chemicals.
- Work collaboratively with the wider facilities and hotel operations teams to ensure integrated property maintenance and guest satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and observations regarding plant health and garden condition.
- Assist with snow removal and other winter maintenance tasks as required to ensure guest safety and property access.
Required Skills
- Proven practical experience in professional gardening or landscaping (minimum 3 years).
- Strong knowledge of various plant species, their care requirements, and local Swiss flora and climate considerations.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining a wide range of landscaping tools and machinery (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions and maintain a high level of stamina.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality, aesthetics, and meticulous garden presentation.
- Thorough knowledge of health and safety standards and procedures relevant to gardening work.
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems and their maintenance.
- Valid Swiss driving license (Category B).
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational qualification or certification in horticulture, landscape gardening, or a related field (e.g., Gärtner EFZ in Switzerland).
- Experience in a hotel, resort, or other high-end property environment with public-facing gardens.
- Familiarity with sustainable gardening practices, organic pest control, and integrated pest management.
- Ability to communicate effectively in German or French in addition to English.
- Creative flair for garden design, seasonal planting, and decorative presentation.
