Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive grooming services including washing, drying, brushing, de-shedding, clipping, and styling various dog breeds according to breed standards, pet owner preferences, and the pet's comfort.
- Conduct thorough pre-grooming consultations with pet owners to understand their specific needs, discuss coat conditions, pet temperament, health history, and any special requests.
- Maintain a scrupulously clean, safe, and hygienic grooming environment, including regular sanitization of tools, equipment, and work areas to prevent the spread of illness.
- Continuously monitor pet behaviour and health during the grooming process, identifying any signs of discomfort, stress, or underlying health concerns and reporting them promptly to pet owners or management.
- Educate pet owners on optimal home grooming care practices, recommend appropriate pet care products, and provide general advice on pet wellbeing.
- Efficiently manage appointment schedules, maintain accurate client records, and assist with inventory management of grooming supplies and products.
- Strictly adhere to all company safety protocols, animal welfare guidelines, and operational policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both pets and staff.
- Collaborate effectively with the broader Petbarn retail team to ensure a seamless and positive customer experience for all pet parents.
- Stay updated with the latest grooming trends, techniques, and product knowledge through continuous professional development.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven professional experience as a Pet Groomer, specifically with dogs of various breeds and sizes.
- Demonstrated expertise in a wide range of breed-specific grooming techniques, scissoring, and styling.
- Exceptional animal handling skills, with a focus on patience, compassion, and minimizing stress for all pets.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with both pet owners and team members.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage time efficiently, and handle multiple appointments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality grooming results.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift and handle pets of varying sizes and temperaments safely.
- Knowledge of basic canine anatomy, common skin conditions, and first aid for animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal grooming certification from a recognized grooming academy or institution.
- Experience grooming cats, in addition to dogs (highly regarded).
- Current Animal First Aid certification.
- Strong understanding of different coat types, skin conditions, and appropriate grooming products.
- Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment.
- Portfolio showcasing previous grooming work.
