Job Description

As an Autonomous Vehicle Systems Engineer at Oxbotica, you will be instrumental in the design, development, integration, and validation of our cutting-edge autonomous vehicle systems. This pivotal role requires a deep understanding of complex system architectures and the ability to bridge the gap between various engineering disciplines, including software, hardware, test, and safety. You will be responsible for defining rigorous system requirements, developing robust designs, and ensuring the seamless integration of our perception, prediction, planning, and control modules onto diverse vehicle platforms. Your expertise will be crucial in translating high-level concepts into detailed technical specifications and verifying their performance through comprehensive testing and analysis. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, troubleshoot issues, and ensure our autonomous solutions meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. You will contribute to the entire product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping to deployment and continuous improvement, playing a key part in bringing our Universal Autonomy software to life in real-world applications. Key Responsibilities

  • Define, analyze, and manage system-level requirements for autonomous vehicle functionalities.
  • Develop and refine system architectures and designs, ensuring scalability, reliability, and safety.
  • Lead the integration and validation of various AV subsystems, including perception, prediction, planning, and control.
  • Collaborate closely with software, hardware, safety, and test engineering teams to ensure system coherence.
  • Conduct comprehensive system-level testing, performance analysis, and root cause troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to the development of functional safety concepts and compliance documentation (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Participate in vehicle testing, data collection, and post-processing to validate system performance.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and dependencies across different system components.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system engineering processes and tools.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in systems engineering for complex embedded systems.
  • Strong understanding of autonomous driving system architectures and components (sensors, perception, planning, control).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Experience with systems modelling and analysis tools (e.g., SysML/UML).
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, Automotive Ethernet).
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards like ISO 26262 and their application in automotive development.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jira).
  • Familiarity with robotic operating systems (ROS) or similar middleware.
  • Experience with simulation environments for autonomous vehicles (e.g., CARLA, Gazebo).
  • Prior experience in a safety-critical industry (e.g., aerospace, medical devices).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for automotive systems.
