Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Green Building Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Dubai. This pivotal role involves contributing to the design, analysis, and implementation of sustainable solutions for a diverse portfolio of landmark projects across the United Arab Emirates and the broader Middle East. The successful candidate will be instrumental in integrating green building principles from concept development through to detailed design and construction support. You will be responsible for conducting energy simulations, daylight analyses, water efficiency studies, and material assessments to optimize building performance and ensure compliance with various green building certification systems such as LEED, ESTIDAMA, and GSAS. Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed energy modeling, daylight analysis, and thermal comfort simulations using industry-standard software (e.g., IESVE, EnergyPlus, Rhino/Grasshopper with environmental plugins).
- Develop and implement passive design strategies and active building systems optimization to achieve high-performance and low-carbon buildings.
- Conduct water demand assessments and propose efficient water management strategies, including greywater recycling and rainwater harvesting systems.
- Advise project teams on material selection, waste management, and embodied carbon reduction strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive green building reports, technical specifications, and documentation for various certification schemes (LEED, ESTIDAMA, GSAS, WELL).
- Collaborate with architects, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers, and other specialists to integrate sustainable design principles across all project stages.
- Participate in design charrettes, client meetings, and workshops to present sustainable design concepts and findings.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in green building technologies, regulations, and best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the firm’s knowledge sharing initiatives in sustainability.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in green building design, sustainability consulting, or MEP engineering with a strong focus on sustainable solutions.
- Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., IESVE, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio).
- Strong understanding of green building rating systems (LEED, ESTIDAMA, GSAS, WELL).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English for technical reports and presentations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Sustainable Design, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Accreditation as a LEED AP, ESTIDAMA PQP, GSAS CGP, or WELL AP.
- Experience with computational design tools such as Rhino/Grasshopper for environmental analysis.
- Familiarity with building codes and regulations in the UAE.
- Experience with life cycle assessment (LCA) tools and methodologies.
