In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in navigating the complex and rapidly evolving regulatory landscape of blockchain and digital assets. We are seeking a highly skilled and diligent compliance professional with a deep understanding of distributed ledger technology (DLT), cryptocurrencies, and their associated regulatory frameworks. You will be responsible for ensuring Sygnum’s operations strictly adhere to all applicable Swiss and international financial regulations, with a particular focus on Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), sanctions, data privacy, and market conduct within the digital asset space. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust compliance policies and procedures tailored to digital assets and blockchain technology, aligning with FINMA regulations and other relevant international standards.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments related to new blockchain-based products, services, and partnerships, providing clear recommendations for compliance mitigation.
- Monitor transactions and activities on DLT platforms for suspicious patterns, ensuring effective AML/CFT measures are in place and promptly reporting any suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
- Advise business units on regulatory requirements for digital asset offerings, stablecoins, NFTs, DeFi, and other emerging blockchain innovations.
- Stay abreast of evolving global and local regulatory developments in the blockchain and crypto space (e.g., MiCA, FATF guidance, FINMA circulars) and adapt internal compliance frameworks accordingly.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports to FINMA and other supervisory bodies as required.
- Develop and deliver compliance training programs to internal stakeholders, fostering a strong culture of compliance across the organization.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors, as well as regulatory authorities, during examinations and inquiries.
- Manage and resolve compliance-related queries and issues from clients and internal teams.
- Contribute to the enhancement of automated compliance monitoring systems and tools specific to digital assets.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or legal roles within the financial services or FinTech industry.
- Proven experience with blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and digital assets.
- In-depth knowledge of Swiss financial market regulations, particularly FINMA guidelines concerning DLT, AML, CFT, and market conduct.
- Strong understanding of international AML/CFT standards (e.g., FATF recommendations).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to novel business models.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective compliance programs and controls.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with all levels of an organization and external stakeholders.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a significant advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CAMS, ICA, Certified Blockchain Professional).
- Legal background or experience working in a regulatory advisory capacity.
- Experience with compliance automation tools and blockchain analytics platforms.
- Master's degree in Law, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Fluency in German.
