Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Compliance Officer to join our dedicated team at BDO Unibank, Inc. This critical role involves ensuring that BDO operates in full adherence to all relevant local and international laws, regulations, and internal policies governing the banking and financial services industry. The Legal Compliance Officer will be instrumental in identifying and mitigating compliance risks, developing and implementing effective compliance programs, and providing expert advice on regulatory matters. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, interpret, and disseminate information on new and existing laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the banking sector in the Philippines and international jurisdictions where BDO operates.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls to prevent violations of legal and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks across all business units.
- Provide expert legal and regulatory advice and guidance to management and staff on various compliance matters, including anti-money laundering (AML), data privacy, consumer protection, and corporate governance.
- Oversee and conduct compliance training programs for employees to ensure a strong understanding of regulatory obligations and ethical standards.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely compliance reports to regulatory bodies (e.g., BSP, SEC, AMLC) and internal stakeholders.
- Represent the bank during regulatory examinations, audits, and investigations, ensuring full cooperation and effective communication.
- Investigate and resolve compliance-related issues, breaches, or complaints, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Stay updated on best practices in legal compliance and risk management within the financial services industry.
Required Skills
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree; admission to the Philippine Bar is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in legal compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related field within the banking or financial services industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Philippine banking laws, regulations (e.g., BSP circulars), and anti-money laundering (AML) laws.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
- High ethical standards and integrity, with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Laws (LLM) or a relevant post-graduate certification in compliance, risk management, or financial crime.
- Experience with international regulatory frameworks (e.g., FATCA, CRS, GDPR) is an advantage.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing compliance programs or managing regulatory projects.
- Certification from recognized compliance organizations (e.g., Certified Compliance Officer – CCO).
