Latraps is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Agricultural Extension Officer to join our expert team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as a vital link between agricultural research, innovative practices, and our farming community. You will be responsible for providing technical guidance, expert advice, and practical solutions to farmers on a wide array of agricultural topics, including crop management, soil health, pest control, livestock best practices, and the adoption of modern technologies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field visits to farms within the designated region to assess needs, provide on-site advice, and monitor agricultural practices.
- Offer technical expertise and practical recommendations on crop cultivation (e.g., cereals, oilseeds, potatoes), soil fertility management, integrated pest management, and animal husbandry.
- Organize and deliver training workshops, seminars, and farmer field days on best agricultural practices, new technologies, and relevant regulations.
- Facilitate the adoption of sustainable farming methods, precision agriculture tools, and environmentally friendly practices among farmers.
- Assist farmers in developing farm plans, selecting appropriate inputs, and optimizing resource utilization for improved yield and profitability.
- Collect and analyze agricultural data, prepare detailed reports on farm performance, challenges, and opportunities.
- Act as a liaison between farmers and agricultural research institutions, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Stay updated on the latest agricultural research, market trends, policy changes, and technological advancements to provide accurate and relevant advice.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in agricultural extension, farm management, or a similar advisory role.
- Strong understanding of Latvian agricultural practices, crops, and livestock.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Latvian (written and spoken) is essential.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies and farm management software.
- Knowledge of organic farming principles and certification processes.
- Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Russian, is an asset.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and report generation using relevant software.
